Mizzou Law Alumna Judge Robin Ransom Appointed to Missouri Supreme Court

Governor Mike Parson appointed the Honorable Robin Ransom, ’91, as the next Judge of the Supreme Court of Missouri. She fills the vacancy created by the retirement of the Honorable Laura Denvir Stith in early March 2021. With the selection, Ransom becomes the first Black woman to serve on the state Supreme Court. Ransom also is the fifth woman to serve, joining Mary Rhodes Russell, ’83, and Patricia Breckenridge, ’77, on the bench. Mizzou Law moves up seven spots in Best Law Schools rankings

17th Annual TH5K set for April 17

The 17th annual Tim Heinsz 5K, 10K & Jim Devine Dog Walk & Bob Bailey Bike Ride is set for Saturday, April 17 at Twin Lakes Recreation Area in Columbia. Professor Mitchell honored with Diversity and Inclusion Award

Professor S. David Mitchell is among the winners of the Missouri Lawyers Media 2021 Diversity and Inclusion awards. Mitchell is the Ruth L. Hulston Professor of Law and recently became one of the two inaugural co-directors of the Michael A. Middleton Center for Race, Citizenship & Justice at Mizzou. Mitchell has been with the law school since 2006 and had served as associate dean for academic affairs from 2015-2021. Veterans Clinic announces new Military Lawyer Transition Program

With generous donations from Susan Combs of Combs and Co. and Diana Pendleton, through her friend Dorothy Connell Berry, the Mizzou Law Veterans Clinic recently announced the creation of the Military Lawyer Transition Program (MLTP). This new program is designed for Mizzou Law students who will be entering a Judge Advocate General Corps (JAG) program in one of America’s armed forces. There is a period of time between when law students who will work in the JAG program graduate, typically 6-8 months, and when they first report for active duty. Three Mizzou Law students honored among the Mizzou 18

On March 2 the University of Missouri Alumni Association announced the student recipients of its Mizzou 18 award. The Veterans Clinic’s Brent Filbert is on a bi-monthly radio show on iHeart Radio and WOVN Chicago called “America’s Heroes Group Roundtable Serving Disabled Veterans in Rural America.” Filbert discusses the Mizzou Law Veterans Clinic in general and talks about rural outreach to veterans through Tigers for Troops. Featured LLM Student: Michael Russell

After graduation from the University of Memphis School of Law in 1999, Michael Russell went on to practice labor and employment law for almost 20 years.
