Mizzou Law allows students to leverage the immense amount of expertise on the University of Missouri campus by offering opportunities to pursue additional graduate degrees simultaneous to the pursuit of a JD. Mizzou Law students can choose one of 10 different options for a dual degree from schools and college across the campus.
Atlantic History & Politics (JD/MA)
Students who enroll in the JD/MA in Atlantic History & Politics dual degree program will enjoy the rigorous study in the theory and practice of law, and the opportunity for interdisciplinary study of the history and philosophical foundations of American constitutional democracy from faculty in the Kinder Institute on Constitutional Democracy. Students can expect to complete the course of study in three years, including two summers.
Business Administration (JD/MBA)
Students completing the Law and Business course of study will be eligible to receive a JD degree from the School of Law and the MBA degree from the School of Business. This course of study may be completed in four years. Normally, students require three years to complete the requirements for the JD degree and two years to complete the requirements for the MBA degree.
Economics (JD/MA)
The Department of Economics and the School of Law offer an integrated program in which students may obtain both an MA degree in economics and a JD degree from the School of Law. Although an MA degree in economics normally requires two years of study, and a JD requires three, many students will be able to complete the program in four years.
Educational Leadership & Policy Analysis (JD/MEd)
The College of Education’s Department of Educational Leadership & Policy Analysis (ELPA) and the School of Law offer an integrated program in which students may obtain both a MEd degree in ELPA with a concentration in Higher Education and a JD degree from the School of Law. Although an MEd degree in Higher Education normally requires two years of study, and a JD requires three years, many students will be able to complete the program in four years.
Health Administration (JD/MHA)
Students completing the following course of study will be eligible to receive the JD degree from the School of Law and a Master of Health Administration (MHA) from the Department of Health Management and Informatics. This course of study may be completed in four years. Normally, students require three years to complete the requirements for the JD degree and two years to complete the requirements for the master’s degree.
Human Development & Family Studies (JD/MA or JD/MS)
Students completing the following course of study will be eligible to receive a JD degree from the School of Law and an MS or MA degree in Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS). This course of study may be completed in four years. Normally, students require three years to complete the requirements for the JD degree and two years to complete the requirements for the master’s degree.
A joint degree program administered through HDFS and the School of Law is available for those students who wish to earn simultaneously a Master of Arts (MA) or a Master of Sciences (MS) degree and Juris Doctorate (JD).
Journalism (JD/MA)
The School of Journalism and the School of Law offer an integrated program in which students may obtain both an MA degree in journalism and a JD degree in law. This program is especially suitable for students interested in enhancing their competencies, qualifications, and career options through the successful completion of two complementary professional programs. Although an MA degree in journalism normally requires two years of study, and a JD requires three, many students will be able to complete the full program in four years.
Journalism (JD/PhD)
The University of Missouri School of Journalism and School of Law offer an integrated program for students seeking both a PhD degree in journalism and a JD degree in law. Students should consider this program if they are interested in teaching or in senior-level practice or policy work in either of these fields, nationally or internationally. Although a PhD degree in journalism normally requires three years of study, and a JD requires three, students may be able to complete the full program in as few as five years.
Library & Information Science (JD/MLIS)
The School of Information Science and Learning Technologies (SISLT) and the School of Law offer an integrated program in which students may obtain both an MLIS degree in library and information science from SISLT and a JD degree from the School of Law. Although an MLIS degree in library and information science normally requires two years of study, and a JD requires three, many students will be able to complete the program in four years.
Public Affairs (JD/MPA)
Students completing this course of study will be eligible to receive the JD degree from the School of Law and the MPA degree from the Harry S Truman School of Government and Public Affairs. This course of study may be completed in four years. Normally, students require three years to complete the requirements for the JD degree and two years to complete the requirements for the MPA degree.
