Mizzou Law offers students the opportunity to earn credits toward graduation while working with and for real lawyers practicing real law. For practicum courses, students spend a semester working with a supervising attorney who serves as the adjunct professor of the course. Students are able to gain real-world experience working on real cases with real stakes while earning course credit.
Students in the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) Practicum course will work in the Missouri AGO’s office in Jefferson City. Supervised by attorneys in the AGO, students will have the opportunity to participate in real cases, including the potential to make arguments in real court cases.
Students in the Missouri Transportation Practicum course will work in the legal offices for the Missouri Department of Transportation (MODOT.) Supervised by attorneys in MODOT, students will have the opportunity to participate in real cases and legal work in the area of transportation law.
This course provides an overview of the laws and policies impacting the deployment of various forms of clean energy, while also providing a practicum focused on the skills needed to succeed in the role of in-house counsel. Students will use a real-world company as a case study to examine legal issues and risks impacting their business models. During the course, students will be required to select at least three “corporate case study companies” as the basis for an email memo assignment written from the perspective of in-house counsel.
Structured training experience through participation in the first-year curriculum project; service as judges in JD student competitions, such as negotiation and client counseling; and assignments to appropriate upper division courses to assist with development of dispute resolution modules. Credit is earned for work over the entire academic year. Graded on a S/U basis only.
